ABOUT DAVID CANNY
SERVING THE VOTERS OVER POLITICAL PARTIES AND BIG DONORS
Thanks for visiting my website and for taking an interest in learning more about the candidates running to represent the voters of Michigan's District 8 in the U.S. Congress. I appreciate and understand just how seriously you take your vote.
Like you, since my first Election Day, I have supported candidates over political parties and have often said to friends that while I more often than not have not voted for the winner, I have rarely voted for a loser. It was in that spirit of independence that I decided to join the Libertarians and to run for Congress in opposition to candidates that continue to legislate in the interests of their parties and donors over the needs of the voters that elected them.
I consider myself to be a fair and open minded libertarian that is firmly grounded in the ideals upon which this country was founded, including The Constitution, The Bill of Rights and the traditions and institutions that bind us together as a great people.
I believe that our Representatives should be more aggressive in writing and sponsoring meaningful legislation and being a stronger national voice rather than being invisible until it's time to cast the next party line vote.
I am 66 years old. I have been married to my best friend and beautiful wife Angela for 28 years. We have two sons, Scott who is a proud husband to the lovely Amanda and father to the amazing, beautiful, and brilliant Lucille and Theodore, is serving in the USAF and working on his college degree, and Drew, who is a retail manager and preparing to finish work on his degree at UM Flint.
I have been very fortunate in that I have had the opportunity to live and work in a wide range of locations and with a very diverse group of people who have all contributed parts of themselves to the man that I am today.
I have over thirty years of successful business experience running multi million dollar retail operations, traveling internationally, and negotiating multi million dollar agreements. I am a firm believer in the values that this country was founded upon and the traditions that bind us as a great people. I also have 60+ years as a witness of Republican and Democrat mismanagement and will provide representation that serves the voters over political parties or big donors. My priorities are many starting with reducing the size and scope of our federal government along with reducing the taxes that feed that monster. I will be a voice for a strong national defense but against globalism, foreign intervention and endless wars. I will support the reduction of overbearing regulatory and licensing requirements that restrict business and individual opportunities. And my position on an issue will never change depending on which party is in the White House.
